HOUSTON (AP) A person with knowledge of the decision says the Houston Texans have hired Reggie Herring as their new linebackers coach.

The person confirmed the hiring to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because no official announcement had been made by the team. The Houston Chronicle and KRIV-TV first reported the hiring.

Herring, 51, coached linebackers for the Texans from 2002-03 under former coach Dom Capers. He had been the linebackers coach in Dallas since 2008, under former Cowboys coach and new Houston defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
