Charlotte Hornets News and Rumors - NBA

Coby White - Increasing workload in practice Head coach Charles Lee said Sunday that White (calf) is without a definitive timetable for a return, though he's been ramping up and taking more contact in practice, Nick Carboni o...

Impact Lee wouldn't confirm whether White will miss Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Nets, so he can be considered highly questionable for that contest until further notice. If the 26-year-old guard needs to miss time to begin the regular season, Dennis Schroder and Christian Anderson would likely see an uptick in minutes.

Kon Knueppel - Ramping up toward return Head coach Charles Lee said Sunday that Knueppel (hamstring) is still without a timetable for a return, though he's been ramping up and taking more contact in practice, Nick Carbon...

Impact Knueppel missed the preseason with a left hamstring injury, though it's encouraging to see him ramping up his workload ahead of the regular season. Lee wouldn't comment on the second-year wing's status for Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Nets, so he can be considered highly questionable until more information comes to light.

Tidjane Salaün - Posts nine points off bench Salaun supplied nine points (4-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt) and four rebounds over 19 minutes in Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Salaun was efficient off the bench, making four of his six shots two nights after scoring 16 points against Boston. The third-year forward will be competing for wing minutes, but he should be set up for increased production if Kon Knueppel (hamstring) is limited in the near future.

Naz Reid - Remains solid in preseason play Reid posted 12 points (5-10 FG, 2-6 3Pt), two rebounds, one assist and one steal in 24 minutes during Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Reid reached double figures in four preseason games, averaging 13.3 points over the span. Charlotte acquired the veteran big man from Minnesota in the June trade that sent LaMelo Ball to the Timberwolves, and he's expected to start at center for the regular season in a move that should benefit both teams.

1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE

Christian Anderson - Leads team in assists Anderson tallied 15 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 8-9 FT), two rebounds, six assists and one steal across 22 minutes in Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Anderson led Charlotte in assists and got to the line nine times, scoring in double figures for the second time in as many preseason appearances. Conversely, he committed four turnovers on a night when the Hornets coughed it up 24 times. The No. 18 overall pick in the 2026 draft could find backup point guard minutes early in the season if Coby White (calf) remains sidelined.

1 DAY AGO • ROTOWIRE

Hannes Steinbach - Records double-double in preseason finale Steinbach logged 19 points (7-9 FG, 5-5 FT), 10 rebounds and three steals over 28 minutes during Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Steinbach exploded off the bench for a double-double, leading Charlotte in scoring and rebounding after totaling just 17 points across his previous three preseason appearances. The rookie checked in early for Ryan Kalkbrenner and played a team-high 28 minutes. With Moussa Diabate (elbow) sidelined, the No. 14 overall pick could be working his way up to quality minutes once the season begins.

Brandon Miller - Scores 15 points with three stocks Miller registered 15 points (4-12 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), two assists, one steal and two blocks over 25 minutes in Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Miller struggled with his shot over Charlotte's final two preseason games, going 8-for-29 from the floor, but he still delivered with the counting stats. Miller's shooting percentage has never been his strong suit, but he has a knack for stuffing the stat sheet and should see a large uptick in usage this season with the departure of LaMelo Ball. He'll make for a solid mid-round target on draft day.

Grayson Allen - Inactive Friday Allen (knee) didn't play in Friday's 117-98 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.

Impact Allen missed a third consecutive contest due to right knee soreness. If he's unable to play in Wednesday's regular-season opener against Atlanta, Sion James and Royce O'Neale could see increased minutes.

2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Ryan Kalkbrenner - Starting Friday Kalkbrenner is in the Hornets' starting lineup for Friday's preseason game against the Grizzlies.

Impact Kalkbrenner will draw the start for Friday's preseason finale while Moussa Diabate (elbow) is sidelined. Across three preseason games, Kalkbrenner has averaged 4.3 points and 3.3 rebounds over 15.4 minutes per game. It's unclear what his role will look like for the 2026-27 season given the presence of both Diabate and rookie first-rounder Hannes Steinbach.

2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Sion James - Starting Friday James will start in Friday's preseason finale against the Grizzlies.

Impact This will be James' first start this preseason and he'll be joined in the first unit by Dennis Schroder, Brandon Miller, Naz Reid and Ryan Kalkbrenner. Across 19 starts last season, James averaged 5.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.1 triples per contest on 35/33/83 shooting splits.

2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Royce O'Neale - Headed to bench O'Neale will come off the bench in Friday's preseason finale in Memphis.

Impact Sion James will replace O'Neale in the first unit for Friday's final exhibition game. In two games off the bench this preseason, O'Neale is averaging 6.0 points and 3.0 assists in 16.9 minutes per contest.

2 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Moussa Diabaté - Dealing with right elbow injury Diabate has been ruled out for Friday's preseason finale against the Grizzlies due to a right elbow injury.

Impact Diabate can be considered day-to-day moving forward, and his status for Wednesday's regular-season opener in Brooklyn remains unclear. If he's sidelined, Ryan Kalkbrenner and rookie Hannes Steinbach would be candidates for increased roles.

Naz Reid - Struggles with shot Reid finished with 12 points (4-14 FG, 2-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and three assists across 26 minutes in Wednesday's 114-93 preseason loss to Boston.

Impact Reid led Charlotte with six rebounds but couldn't find his shooting touch, converting just four of 14 attempts while missing five shots from beyond the arc. The versatile big man started alongside Moussa Diabate and continued to see opportunities on the perimeter, though his offensive efficiency will be worth monitoring as he settles into his role with the Hornets.

3 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Christian Anderson - Scores 10 in preseason debut Anderson (ankle) recorded 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and two steals across 21 minutes in Wednesday's 114-93 preseason loss to Boston.

Impact After missing Charlotte's first two preseason contests with an ankle sprain, Anderson made an efficient return, shooting 50 percent from the field while connecting on two of three attempts from deep. The rookie guard also contributed defensively with two steals, giving the Hornets a promising look at his potential as he competes for backcourt minutes.

3 DAYS AGO • ROTOWIRE

Royce O'Neale - Perfect from field Wednesday O'Neale delivered 12 points (4-4 FG, 4-4 3Pt) in 23 minutes while chipping in two rebounds and two assists during Wednesday's preseason loss to the Celtics.

Impact Getting the start with Kon Knueppel (hamstring), Coby White (calf) and Grayson Allen (knee) all missing from the backcourt, O'Neale was perfect with his shooting opportunities, although he also committed five turnovers. It's not clear if any of those Hornet guards will be ready for Opening Night, so O'Neale could find himself in a bigger role than expected to begin the campaign. The veteran forward was dealt to Charlotte in June after averaging a career-high 9.8 points and 2.7 threes over 78 regular-season games for Phoenix in 2025-26.

Brandon Miller - Struggles with shot in preseason loss Miller scored 16 points (4-17 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 5-5FT) while adding five rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes during Wednesday's preseason loss to the Celtics.

Impact With a number of key backcourt players unavailable, the Hornets went with a big starting five that shifted Miller to shooting guard while Royce O'Neale joined Naz Reid and Moussa Diabate in the frontcourt. The alignment didn't seem to suit Miller, although he did tie Tidjane Saluan for the team scoring lead. Miller heads into his fourth NBA season mainly looking to prove he can stay healthy after missing a combined 72 regular-season games over the prior two campaigns.

Impact Salaun led Charlotte in scoring, fueled by four three-pointers off the bench. The 2024 first-round pick will look to take a step forward during the 2026-27 campaign after averaging 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per contest across 37 regular-season appearances last season.
