Janson Junk - Completes pitch-design session Junk (shin) threw a pitch-design session Friday and could be cleared to face hitters in live batting practice during the upcoming week, MLB.com reports.
Impact Junk seems to be making good progress in his recovery from a right shin bone inflammation, which sent him to the injured list May 31. Once Junk resumes facing hitters, a minor-league rehab assignment should follow shortly thereafter. Junk may need just one start in the minors before slotting back into the Miami rotation, potentially in the first week of July.

Kyle Stowers - Launches eighth homer Stowers went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run scored in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Giants.
Impact Stowers opened the scoring in the second inning, taking Logan Webb deep for a solo shot that proved to be a key run in Miami's one-run victory. The homer was his eighth of the season and continued a recent power surge, as he has now gone deep three times in his last four games. The outfielder is batting .230 with five homers and 17 RBI across 17 June contests. On the season, Stowers is slashing .223/.319/.416 with 12 doubles, one triple, 28 RBI, 25 runs scored and one stolen base through 54 games.

Lake Bachar - Records first save Bachar earned the save Sunday against the Giants, working a scoreless ninth inning with one walk in a 2-1 victory.
Impact With Pete Fairbanks having recorded saves in each of the previous two days, Bachar was entrusted with a one-run lead in the ninth inning Sunday. He successfully closed the door after working around a leadoff walk to Rafael Devers to secure his first save of the season. While he isn't a regular fixture in the ninth inning, Bachar has been one of Miami's steadier relievers lately, allowing just two runs over his last 13 innings. He now owns a 3.02 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 46:16 K:BB across 41.2 innings on the season.

Ryan Gusto - Fans six in no-decision Gusto did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Giants, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 4.1 innings.
Impact Gusto turned in one of his better outings of the season, setting a season high with six strikeouts. The lone blemish came in the third inning, when he allowed a walk and two hits, including an RBI single by Casey Schmitt. Outside of that frame, Gusto kept the Giants largely in check and showed more improvement in the swing-and-miss department. While the overall results have been uneven, he has at least proven capable of handling a starter's role when called upon, which could earn him additional opportunities in the rotation moving forward. Despite the encouraging outing, the right-hander still owns a 6.00 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across 18 innings this season.

Josh Ekness - Shifts to 60-day IL The Marlins transferred Ekness (calf) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Impact When Ekness was initially placed on the IL on June 1 due to a right calf strain, manager Clayton McCullough indicated that the right-handed reliever would be out for approximately six weeks. Ekness' move to the 60-day IL ensures that he'll be shelved for an additional two weeks beyond that, likely pushing his absence into August. The 24-year-old posted a 1.69 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 5:5 K:BB in 5.1 innings over six appearances for Miami prior to being deactivated.

Brian Navarreto - Summoned from Triple-A The Marlins selected Navarreto's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
Impact He'll provide Miami with a second option at catcher behind Joe Mack after the Marlins moved Liam Hicks (back) to the 10-day injured list Sunday. Mack is expected to shoulder a heftier workload behind the dish while Hicks is shelved, so Navarreto may not be in store for more than a start or two per week while he's up with Miami.

Javier Sanoja - Sitting Sunday Sanoja is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Impact Sanoja will be held out of the starting nine for the series finale while the Marlins go with their third different third baseman in as many days. Connor Norby will get a turn at the hot corner Sunday after Sanoja and Leo Jimenez made starts at the position in the first two contests of the series.

Heriberto Hernández - Dropped from starting nine Sunday Hernandez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Giants.
Impact Hernandez will be given a breather after he started in the first two games of the series and went 2-for-7 with a home run, a double, a walk and two RBI. The Marlins will go with Esteury Ruiz in left field on Sunday.

Liam Hicks - Lands on injured list The Marlins placed Hicks on the 10-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to June 20, due to a lower-back strain.
Impact The 27-year-old was scratched from Saturday's lineup due to what was initially reported as lower-back tightness, and he'll be out for at least another nine days after being diagnosed with a strain. It's unclear if Hicks will be ready to return when first eligible June 30, as an official recovery timeline has yet to be reported. Griffin Conine (hamstring) was reinstated from the injured list Sunday and seems likely to fill Hicks' vacated spot in the lineup.

Griffin Conine - Brought back from 60-day IL The Marlins reinstated Conine (hamstring) from the 60-day injured list Sunday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Impact Miami designated Christopher Morel for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Conine, who is back with the big club for the first time since early April after a prolonged absence due to a left hamstring tear that required surgery. The Marlins were comfortable with bringing Conine back after a three-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville, during which he went 4-for-10 with a home run while making one start apiece at first base and in right and left field. The left-handed-hitting Conine doesn't appear to have a clean path to steady playing time at the moment, though at-bats could open up for him if Heriberto Hernandez eventually cools down and shifts into more of a short-side platoon role.
21 HOURS AGO • ROTOWIRE
Christopher Morel - Designated for assignment The Marlins designated Morel for assignment Sunday, Daniel Alvarez-Montes of ElExtraBase.com reports.
Impact The Marlins will finally cut Morel loose after posting a .162/.219/.206 slash line with a 38.4 percent strikeout rate through 73 plate appearances. He joined Miami on a one-year, $2 million contract in December, and he seems likely to clear waivers since the claiming team would be on the hook for his remaining salary.
