Esteury Ruiz - Slated to rejoin team
Ruiz (oblique) has completed his rehab assignment with Triple-A Jacksonville and will meet the Marlins in San Francisco ahead of Friday's series opener against the Giants, Kevin Ba...
Impact
Ruiz opened the season on the 10-day injured list due to a high-grade left oblique strain that he sustained in spring training. He has progressed enough in his recovery to rejoin the Marlins and could make his debut during the team's weekend road series. Miami opened up a spot for Ruiz on the 26-man roster by designating Austin Slater for assignment Wednesday, per Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida.

Austin Slater - DFA'd by Miami
The Marlins designated Slater for assignment Wednesday, Craig Mish of FanDuel Sports Network Florida reports.
Impact
Slater has seen sparse playing time in the outfield this season and has gone 4-for-23 (.174) with one steal, one RBI and a 4:9 BB:K this season. With no minor-league options left, the Marlins have elected to let go of the 33-year-old outfielder in order to open up a spot on the 40-man roster. Slater will go on waivers and could garner interest from a team looking to add depth in the outfield.

Javier Sanoja - Three hits in Wednesday's win
Sanoja went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Impact
Getting the start at third base and batting ninth before shifting to second base later in the contest, Sanoja rapped out his third three-hit performance of the season. The 23-year-old utility player has seen action at five different positions (second, third, shortstop, left field and center field) already this season while contributing a surprising amount of offense, slashing .352/.397/.407 through 18 games with three doubles, two steals, one run and nine RBI.

Pete Fairbanks - Nails down save No. 5
Fairbanks struck out one in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning Wednesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 4-1 win over the Cardinals.
Impact
The Marlins held a 4-0 lead heading into the ninth inning, but after Lake Bachar served up a solo shot to Ivan Herrera to lead off the frame and then walked Nolan Gorman, Fairbanks was brought in to quell the threat. The right-hander has converted three straight save chances over the last four days, but with Miami having a scheduled off day Thursday, manager Clayton McCullough may not have to worry about giving him some rest and finding an alternate closing option. On the season, Fairbanks has a 7,27 ERA that doesn't line up with his much more palatable 1.04 WHIP and 13:1 K:BB through 8.2 innings.

Janson Junk - Blanks Cards in short outing
Junk (1-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 4-1 victory over the Cardinals, allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings. He struck out two.
Impact
The right-hander got a surprisingly early hook after just 56 pitches (38 strikes), but he was due to face the top of the St. Louis order for a third time in the top of the sixth, and manager Clayton McCullough didn't indicate after the game that Junk was dealing with any sort of injury. Junk has given the Marlins at least five innings in four straight outings, but if his usage continues to be this restricted, he'll have a hard time keeping that streak going. He'll take a 3.67 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through 27 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.

Leo Jimenez - X-rays on hand are negative
Jimenez is day-to-day after X-rays on his left hand came back negative, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Jimenez was hit by a Kyle Leahy pitch in his first plate appearance during Wednesday's win over the Cardinals and eventually exited the game. He is dealing with some bruising but has managed to avoid broken bones. Jimenez has played sparingly for the Marlins, as his start Wednesday was his first in two weeks.

Graham Pauley - Sitting against righty
Pauley is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact
The left-handed-hitting Pauley often sits versus southpaws, but he'll be heading to the bench Wednesday while right-hander Kyle Leahy starts for the Cardinals. Though Javier Sanoja will fill in at third base in the series finale, Pauley could face a greater threat from Connor Norby for reps at the hot corner once Christopher Morel (oblique) returns from the injured list. Morel had been in line to serve as the Marlins' primary first baseman before straining his oblique prior to Opening Day, but Norby has been handling those duties through the first four weeks of the season and has produced a .738 OPS. Pauley, meanwhile, has struggled to a .492 OPS and has struck out at a 27.3 percent clip over 55 plate appearances.

Connor Norby - Receiving breather Wednesday
Norby is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact
Liam Hicks will fill in at first base for Norby, who will receive a rest for the matinee game after starting in each of the Marlins' previous 11 contests while slashing .282/.326/.436 with one home run, five RBI and three runs. Christopher Morel (oblique) could soon return from the injured list and unseat Norby as the Marlins' primary first baseman, though Norby could still have a path to receiving steady reps at either third base or designated hitter.

Kyle Stowers - Taking seat for day game
Stowers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.
Impact
Stowers missed the first three weeks of the season due to a right hamstring strain before coming off the injured list Sunday and starting in each of the Marlins' subsequent three games while going 3-for-10 with a double, two walks and two runs. The 28-year-old hasn't suffered any reported setbacks since returning, so his absence Wednesday looks to be the result of him getting rest for a day game after a night game.

Jakob Marsee - Swats first homer of 2026
Marsee went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.
Impact
The center fielder launched his first homer of the season, taking Dustin May deep to lead off the bottom of the first inning, but it was the only extra-base hit Miami batters managed to produce all night. Marsee has struggled to find much consistency to begin the year but he may be heating up, slashing .242/.390/.394 over the last nine games with two steals, two RBI, seven runs and a 7:6 BB:K.

ROTOWIRE
Chris Paddack - Fans seven in Tuesday's loss
Paddack (0-4) took the loss Tuesday as the Marlins fell 5-3 to the Cardinals, surrendering five runs on eight hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out seven.
Impact
The seven Ks were a season high, but it was otherwise another shaky performance from Paddack, who failed to last five innings for the fourth time in five outings. The veteran right-hander has served up five homers in 24 innings, leaving him with a 6.38 ERA and 1.54 WHIP despite a seemingly strong 25:6 K:BB, and Paddack may be running out of time to turn things around before he gets bumped from the rotation by younger arms like Robby Snelling. Paddack's unlikely to collect his first win of 2026 in his next start, which is set to come on the road early next week against the Dodgers.
