Sixto Sánchez - Slight shoulder soreness Sanchez experienced some slight right shoulder soreness after his last extended spring training outing, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact It's not ideal given Sanchez's lengthy history of shoulder problems, but the Marlins believe it's unrelated to the right-hander's surgery and they intend to have him back on a throwing program Monday. Sanchez hasn't made a game appearance at any level since 2020.

Trevor Rogers - Beginning throwing program Rogers (biceps) will begin a throwing program Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Rogers will begin with some catch before progressing to long toss, bullpen sessions, live batting practice and eventually a rehab assignment. The left-hander has been on the shelf since late April with a strained left biceps and is likely several weeks away from a return.

Impact If that goes well, a rehab assignment shouldn't be far off. Nance is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible for activation until late May.

Impact Cooper landed on the injured list Wednesday with an inner ear infection, an issue which had been bothering him for a few days. He should be able to make a quick return once he's totally symptom-free.

JT Chargois - Cleared for rehab assignment Chargois (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Low-A Jupiter on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Heraldreports.
Impact Chargois will throw one inning in what will be his first game appearance since he suffered a right oblique strain back on April 10. It's not clear how many rehab outings Chargois will need before being activated, but he's close.

Huascar Brazoban - Dominant relief outing Brazoban gave up two hits and struck out four in 1.1 scoreless innings of relief during Thursday's loss to Atlanta.
Impact With the Marlins down 4-3 in the sixth inning, Brazoban took over from Jesus Luzardo and struck out Ronald Acuna to end the inning and strand a runner in scoring position, before striking out the side around a pair of singles in the seventh. Brazoban has been outstanding for the Marlins to begin 2023, posting a 2.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 23:3 K:BB through 19 innings with four holds. The right-hander has worked more than one inning in eight of his 13 appearances, and his ability to deliver bulk strikeouts and strong ratios gives him some fantasy value in NL-only formats even without a path to consistent saves.

Impact It looks like Hampson will be the right fielder against lefties while Avisail Garcia (back) is out and he'll continue seeing plenty of starts at shortstop, as well, at least until Joey Wendle (intercostal) is back. Justin Steele will be starting for the Cubs in this one.

Jon Berti - Racks up three hits Berti went 3-for-5 with a stolen base and a run scored in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta.
Impact Berti and Jorge Soler went a combined 6-for-10 on Thursday, while the rest of the Marlins had four hits and three walks. Berti's steal snapped a span of 16 games without one for the speedster. He's up to five thefts with two home runs, eight RBI, 13 runs scored and a .261/.324/.370 slash line through 103 plate appearances.

Jorge Soler - Accounts for offense in loss Soler went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Atlanta.
Impact Soler tagged Dylan Dodd for a two-run homer in the first inning and an RBI double in the fifth, but that was the extent of Miami's run production. This was Soler's third three-hit effort of the year, but he'd gone just 2-for-33 over nine games since his last such performance. The 31-year-old is batting just .220, but his .765 OPS through 30 contests is his highest since 2020. He's added six homers, 13 RBI, 12 runs scored and nine doubles this season.

Jesus Luzardo - Suffers second loss Luzardo (2-2) allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 5.2 innings, taking the loss versus Atlanta on Thursday.
Impact Luzardo turned in another okay effort, though the five strikeouts matched his season low. The southpaw threw 106 pitches (68 strikes), but Atlanta's offense proved just a little better. His 3.66 ERA is fine, but a 1.40 WHIP and 43:14 K:BB through 39.1 innings don't suggest he can get much better unless he can start limiting baserunners better. Luzardo projects for a road start in Arizona next week.

The 33-year-old speedster does figure to move back into more of a utility role once Wendle returns.
