Daniel Castano - DFA'd by Miami
Castano (shoulder) was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Castano appeared in 10 games (seven starts) for the Marlins in 2022 and had a 4.04 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 20:9 K:BB across 35.2 innings. He was sidelined for over a month by a concussion after being struck in the head by a comebacker last summer, and he was also diagnosed with a small labrum tear in his shoulder in September. It's unclear if the left-hander will be ready for the start of spring training in February.

Max Meyer - Nearing return to throwing
Meyer (elbow) said Wednesday he expects to begin a throwing program within the next few weeks, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The 23-year-old underwent Tommy John surgery in August, so a return to throwing six months later would be an encouraging sign for his recovery timeline. Meyer still faces a lengthy rehab schedule to build back his arm strength, but a return late in the 2023 campaign appears possible, assuming he avoids any setbacks.

Jacob Stallings - Avoids arbitration with Miami
Stallings signed a one-year, $3.35 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact
Stallings managed a lowly .584 OPS in 2022 but continued to draw praise for his defense and handling of the pitching staff. He'll share catching duties with Nick Fortes in 2023.

Lopez agreed to a one-year, $5.45 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact
Lopez made $2.45 million in his first year of arbitration eligibility last season, and he'll more than double that salary in 2023. The 26-year-old had a 3.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 174:53 K:BB over 180 innings last year.

Tanner Scott - Reaches deal with Miami
Scott agreed to a $2.825 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
Impact
The 28-year-old led the Marlins with 20 saves last season, but he struggled during the second half while Dylan Floro finished the campaign as the primary closer. Scott finished with a 4.31 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 90:46 K:BB across 62.2 innings and is likely to open 2023 in a setup role.

Joey Wendle - Settles for $6 million
Wendle agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract with the Marlins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.
Impact
Miami declined Wendle's $6.6 million mutual option for 2023 in November, but he remained under team control and will have a slightly lower salary. The 32-year-old had a .259/.27/.360 slash line with three homers and 12 steals in 101 games last season, and he could open 2023 as the Marlins' starting shortstop after Miguel Rojas was shipped to the Dodgers.

Impact
Cooper played a career-high 119 games last season and had a .261/.337/.415 slash line with nine home runs and 50 RBI. The 32-year-old should be Miami's Opening Day starter at first base and is entering his final year before free agency.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. - Team undecided on position
Marlins general manager Kim Ng told Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald Thursday that the team is undecided on Chisholm's position for 2023.
Impact
The trade of Miguel Rojas to the Dodgers could potentially free up Chisholm to move to his natural position at shortstop. However, he's not considered a strong defender there, so the club might ultimately keep him at second base and use Joey Wendle as their primary shortstop. That's if Wendle himself isn't also traded. Chisholm was limited to 60 games in 2022 due to back and knee issues but should enter spring training with a clean bill of health.

Jacob Amaya - Acquired by Miami
Amaya (undisclosed) was acquired by the Marlins from the Dodgers on Wednesday in exchange for shortstop Miguel Rojas (wrist), Jim Bowden of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Amaya split the 2022 campaign between the Double-A and Triple-A levels and had a .261/.369/.426 slash line across 133 games. He landed on the 60-day injured list in October with an unspecified injury, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training next month.

Charles Leblanc - Goes unclaimed
The Marlins outrighted Leblanc to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact
Leblanc was booted off the 40-man roster last week when the Marlins finalized a deal with infielder Jean Segura, but the 26-year-old Leblanc will end up sticking in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers. In his first taste of the majors last season, he hit a credible .263 over 169 plate appearances, but he struck out at an elevated 31.4 percent clip and benefited greatly from a .374 BABIP.
