Matt Barnes - Could be part of closing committee Marlins manager Skip Schumaker indicated Wednesday he doesn't plan on using a traditional closer and will instead play matchups with Barnes and the team's other high-leverage optio...
Impact The 32-year-old right-hander is coming off a shaky season in Boston, but Barnes racked up 24 saves for the Red Sox in 2021. He also piled up 90 holds over a four-year stretch earlier in his career. Dylan Floro, Tanner Scott and fellow offseason addition A.J. Puk also figure to be in the mix for late-inning work in Miami, with Steven Okert (triceps) and JT Chargois potentially options as well. Given the sheer number of viable arms at the manager's disposal, there may not end up being one consistent save source on the Marlins this season, but plenty of fantasy value in formats that count holds as well.

Dylan Floro - Likely part of closing committee Marlins manager Skip Schumaker indicated Wednesday he doesn't plan on using a traditional closer and will instead play matchups with Floro and the team's other high-leverage option...
Impact Floro has 25 saves over the last two seasons for the Marlins but also 16 holds, and it doesn't sound like that ratio will change all that much with Schumaker at the helm. Tanner Scott, who had 20 saves in 2022 for Miami, and offseason additions A.J. Puk and Matt Barnes also figure to be in the mix for late-inning work, with Steven Okert (triceps) and JT Chargois potentially options as well. Given the sheer number of viable arms at the manager's disposal, there may not end up being one consistent save source on the Marlins this season, but plenty of fantasy value in formats that count holds as well.

Sixto Sánchez - On track for bullpen next week Sanchez (shoulder) said Thursday he's hopeful to throw a bullpen session next week, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Sanchez told reporters earlier this month that he'd already been throwing off a mound, but next week could be his first official bullpen session of the spring. Making his way back from a second shoulder surgery, Sanchez lost upwards of 40 pounds over the offseason and is hoping to be part of the Marlins' Opening Day roster. More likely, he'll begin the season at Triple-A Jacksonville as he tries to make up for lost time.

Braxton Garrett - To start Grapefruit League opener Garrett will start the Marlins' Grapefruit League opener Saturday, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact Garrett might have to put on a show this spring in order to claim the final spot in Miami's season-opening starting rotation. Edward Cabrera is thought to be his primary competition for that job. There's also a chance the Marlins will roll with a six-man group of starters in the early going, though that assumes good health on all fronts coming out of camp.

Trevor Rogers - Tosses live BP on Sunday Rogers, who missed the end of last season with a lat strain, faced live batters in camp Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The southpaw faced Jazz Chisholm among other big-league hitters. Rogers is coming off a disastrous 2022 season that can't be written off as simply a result of injuries, and the 25-year-old will have a lot to prove this year if he wants to hang onto a rotation spot with prospects like Eury Perez coming up through the ranks. The fact that Rogers is healthy to begin spring training is a plus, but he should be viewed as a high-risk fantasy option even if he looks good during Grapefruit League play.

Eury Pérez - Flashes heat in BP session Perez topped out at 99 mph with his fastball during a live batting practice session Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The teenage phenom also worked on his slider and changeup, and new Marlin Luis Arraez came away from the session very impressed with Perez. "I don't tell him too much, but he's nasty," Arraez said. "He looks like a veteran there. I know he's [like] Sandy [Alcantara's] son, so he tried to follow Sandy, and he's nasty. I just talked about the changeup. He threw me one changeup -- the first one was bad -- but the last one was a beautiful changeup to roll over. He almost broke my bat. I never break bats sometimes. He almost broke my bat. He's nasty." Perez, who won't turn 20 until mid-April, is projected to begin the season with Triple-A Jacksonville, but after he posted a 106:25 K:BB through 75 innings at Double-A in 2022, it may not be long before he forces his way into Miami's rotation.

Edward Cabrera - Might be squeezed out of rotation Cabrera could be fighting with Braxton Garrett for the final spot in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The offseason addition of Johnny Cueto could push a younger pitcher to Triple-A Jacksonville, although the team is also considering a six-man rotation. Cabrera was very impressive at times in 2022, riding his 96 mph fastball and nasty changeup to a 25.8 percent strikeout rate and 13.7 percent swinging strike rate, but the 24-year-old righty's 11.3 percent walk rate over 71.2 big-league innings indicates he could perhaps use some additional development time at Triple-A.

Braxton Garrett - Not guaranteed rotation spot Garrett could be fighting with Edward Cabrera for the final spot in the Marlins' Opening Day rotation, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The offseason addition of Johnny Cueto could push a younger pitcher to Triple-A Jacksonville, although the team is also considering a six-man rotation. Garrett took a big step forward with his command in 2022, posting a 24.1 percent strikeout rate and 6.4 percent walk rate over 17 starts and 88 innings, and the 25-year-old southpaw could be poised for a breakout if he gets a chance to be a regular part of the Marlins' rotation.
FEBRUARY 18, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Eury Pérez - Should see Grapefruit League action Perez is expected to pitch in Grapefruit League games early in camp, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact The 19-year-old top prospect is a non-roster invitee, but with a number of rotation options for the Marlins participating in the WBC, there will be innings available in games for Perez and other younger arms. After striking out 106 batters in only 75 Double-A innings last season as a teenager, the sky's the limit on Perez's potential if the lanky 6-foot-8 hurler can keep his mechanics in synch, and a 2023 big-league debut is very much on the table.
FEBRUARY 17, 2023 • ROTOWIRE
Huascar Brazoban - Delayed start to camp Brazoban has yet to report to spring training due to visa issues, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
Impact The 33-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut last season and was expected to compete for a low-leverage spot in the Marlins' bullpen this spring, but any significant delay could cost him that opportunity. Brazoban averaged 97.2 mph with his fastball and posted a solid 28.4 percent strikeout rate with a shaky 14.9 percent walk rate over 27 appearances for Miami in 2022, but he showed sharper control at Triple-A prior to his promotion.

A.J. Puk - Headed for high-leverage role Puk will fill a late-inning role in the Marlins bullpen, Jordan McPherson of The Miami Herald reports.
Impact The southpaw had been working on a splitter and cutter this offseason to supplement his 96-mph fastball and plus slider in anticipation of a move to the Oakland rotation, but the trade to Miami puts Puk back in the kind of high-leverage bullpen role he excelled in last season. "[The trade] creates a much deeper bullpen, with some guys with swing-and-miss stuff at the back that's going to give our manager some nice options," pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. said Wednesday. "We're probably going to mix-and-match back there. They'll step up and define their roles as we go, but [we have] some guys that have experience back there and it's a much better feeling going into the spring with those guys that we have back there. Lots of options." Puk recorded 20 holds, four saves and four wins in 62 relief appearances for the A's in 2022 with a 3.12 ERA and 27.0 percent strikeout rate over 66.1 innings.
