Jeremy Peña - Doing limited baseball work
Pena (finger) is sprinting, swinging with one hand and fielding groundballs, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
The 28-year-old was diagnosed with a fracture in the tip of his right ring finger in early March, sidelining him for the World Baseball Classic and putting his availability for Opening Day into question. Pena's current participation in baseball activities is encouraging, and at this point he just awaiting clearance to throw and swing with both hands. Once fully cleared, the shortstop doesn't expect to need many at-bats before being ready for MLB action, so he still has a chance to be ready by Opening Day.

Enyel De Los Santos - Spring debut coming Tuesday
Astros manager Joe Espada said that De Los Santos (knee) is slated to pitch in a game Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Espada didn't specify whether De Los Santos will be pitching in the Astros' Grapefruit League game against the Pirates that day or on the back fields of camp in a minor-league game, but either way, it will be the spring debut for the 30-year-old righty. De Los Santos has been slowed by a right knee strain suffered during the beginning of camp, but he's since resumed facing hitters and is slated to take part in pitcher's fielding practice Sunday. Since De Los Santos likely won't be counted on to cover more than one or two innings in any of his relief appearances during the upcoming season, he shouldn't require much of a ramp-up period and appears on track for Opening Day.

Amos Willingham - Cut by Houston
The Astros reassigned Willingham to minor-league camp Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
The 27-year-old right-hander previously made 19 appearances in the big leagues for Washington between the 2023 and 2024 seasons, but he spent all of 2025 in the minors as a member of the Atlanta organization, logging a collective 5.17 ERA in 55.2 innings across stops with four different affiliates. After being cut from the Astros' big-league camp, Willingham will likely open the 2026 campaign at Triple-A Sugar Land.

Tom Cosgrove - Fails to win Opening Day spot
The Astros reassigned Cosgrove to minor-league camp Sunday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Cosgrove is expected to serve as organizational bullpen depth at Triple-A Sugar Land to begin the season after he was unable to secure a spot in the Astros' Opening Day bullpen. The 29-year-old lefty joined Houston on a minor-league deal over the winter after he spent time in the Padres and Cubs organizations in 2025 and made just two relief appearances at the big-league level.

Cavan Biggio - Back in action Saturday
Biggio (elbow) will serve as the Astros' designated hitter and bat fifth in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.
Impact
Biggio underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow during the offseason. He has progressed enough in his recovery to make his first Grapefruit League appearance Saturday, and he'll be brought into the fold slowly by serving as the Astros' DH. Biggio, who is out of minor-league options, inked a minor-league deal with Houston in mid-February.

Zach Cole - Heating up in spring
Cole has gone 3-for-10 with a home run in his last three Grapefruit League contests.
Impact
While Cole is starting to turn things around at the plate, it's been a quiet spring for the outfielder overall -- he's now batting .192 (5-for-26) with a .641 OPS and four steals in 11 games. The 25-year-old Cole remains in competition with Cam Smith, Joey Loperfido and Brice Matthews for Houston's final outfield spot.

Christian Walker - Homers Friday
Walker went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's Grapefruit League matchup against the Cardinals.
Impact
It's a positive sign for Walker, who was ice cold to start the spring, going just 1-for-16 in his first eight Grapefruit League contests. While his name came up in trade rumors this offseason, the 34-year-old Walker is poised to open the year as Houston's starting first baseman again. He slashed .238/.297/.421 with 27 homers and 88 RBI across 640 plate appearances last season.

Cristian Javier - Returning to team Saturday
Manager Joe Espada said Javier (personal) will return to the Astros on Saturday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Javier left the team Wednesday to tend to a personal matter. The right-hander will turn 29 years old on Opening Day, and this will be his first fully healthy season since undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of 2024. Across eight starts last regular season, Javier logged a 4.62 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 34:15 K:BB over 37 innings. He's expected to follow Hunter Brown and Tatsuya Imai in the rotation.

Cristian Javier - Away from team for personal matter
Astros manager Joe Espada said Wednesday that Javier will be away from the club for the next few days while tending to a personal matter, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact
Citing privacy, Espada didn't provide any further information regarding Javier's upcoming absence, but the skipper noted that the right-hander will continue to throw while he remains away. Javier tossed 1.2 innings and 52 pitches in his Grapefruit League debut Monday, so as long as he's able to return to the team in time to make another start before spring training ends, he should be able to handle something close to a normal workload when his first turn in the rotation comes up during the regular season.
