Impact It was a nice showing for Emerson, who'd gone 0-for-5 in his first three spring appearances. The 20-year-old infielder is competing with Cole Young to earn the starting second-base job on Opening Day, though it seems more likely that Emerson will start the year with Triple-A Tacoma. He's coming off an excellent campaign in the minors, where he slashed .285/.383/.458 with 16 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 130 games across three levels. Even if Emerson doesn't break camp with the Mariners, he's almost certain to make his MLB debut at some point in 2026.

George Kirby - Shaky to start spring Kirby allowed two runs on two hits and a walk across 1.1 innings in Tuesday's Cactus League matchup with the White Sox. He struck out one.

Impact It was a tough start to the spring for Kirby in his first Cactus League outing. The right-hander gave up a two-out run on a Lenyn Sosa double in the first inning before he was charged with two more runs after departing with one out in the second. Kirby is looking to rebound from an up-and-down 2025 campaign, where he posted a career-worst 4.21 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 137:29 K:BB across 23 starts (126 innings).

Impact The Mariners are taking an extended look at Farmelo early this spring, as the outfielder has appeared in three of their first four Cactus League contests. Farmelo has responded nicely, going 3-for-8 with a double and a pair of stolen bases. A first-round pick in the 2023 draft, Farmelo is one of the top prospects in a deep Seattle system, though he's been limited by numerous injuries early in his career. He appeared in just 30 games in 2025, where he posted a solid .819 OPS with seven home runs and two steals. Farmelo will likely return to High-A Everett to start the 2026 campaign.

Impact It certainly wasn't the ideal start to the spring for Ferrer. The lefty struck out Andy Pages to open the frame before surrendering three straight hits, including a pair of doubles, followed by a walk and a wild pitch. The Mariners are hoping that Ferrer can shake off the rust before Opening Day, as he's expected to play a key role in the back end of their bullpen. Ferrer was traded to Seattle in December after posting a 4.48 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 71:16 K:BB across 76.1 innings with the Nationals in 2025.
