MLB insider's Colt Emerson ETA raises suspicions about Mariners' intentions
If Emerson earns it in camp and still doesn’t break camp, the conversation won’t be about roster depth. It’ll be about intentions.

J.P. Crawford - Managing shoulder issue
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said Wednesday that Crawford is tending to a shoulder issue and is expected to make his Cactus League debut at some point next week, Shannon Drayer of S...
Impact
Wilson downplayed any concern about Crawford's availability for Opening Day, noting instead that the Mariners are merely taking a cautious approach with the shortstop in the early stages of spring training. Crawford's absence from the lineup in the Mariners' initial Cactus League lineups will open up more opportunities for top prospect Colt Emerson to see some reps at shortstop, though Emerson still appears likely to open the season at Triple-A Tacoma.

Julio Rodríguez - Red hot to start spring
Rodriguez went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
Impact
Rodriguez hasn't shown any signs of rust to start the spring -- the outfielder is now 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles in his first three Cactus League games. Rodriguez should continue to see regular at-bats with the Mariners early in the spring before he reports to the World Baseball Classic with the Dominican Republic. Rodriguez slashed .267/.324/.474 in 2025 while joining the 30-30 club for the second time in his career, logging 32 homers and 30 stolen bases.

Colt Emerson - Picks up first two spring hits
Emerson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's Cactus League matchup against the White Sox.
Impact
It was a nice showing for Emerson, who'd gone 0-for-5 in his first three spring appearances. The 20-year-old infielder is competing with Cole Young to earn the starting second-base job on Opening Day, though it seems more likely that Emerson will start the year with Triple-A Tacoma. He's coming off an excellent campaign in the minors, where he slashed .285/.383/.458 with 16 home runs and 14 stolen bases in 130 games across three levels. Even if Emerson doesn't break camp with the Mariners, he's almost certain to make his MLB debut at some point in 2026.

George Kirby - Shaky to start spring
Kirby allowed two runs on two hits and a walk across 1.1 innings in Tuesday's Cactus League matchup with the White Sox. He struck out one.
Impact
It was a tough start to the spring for Kirby in his first Cactus League outing. The right-hander gave up a two-out run on a Lenyn Sosa double in the first inning before he was charged with two more runs after departing with one out in the second. Kirby is looking to rebound from an up-and-down 2025 campaign, where he posted a career-worst 4.21 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP and 137:29 K:BB across 23 starts (126 innings).

Brendan Donovan - Two hits in spring debut
Donovan made his Cactus League debut Tuesday against the White Sox. He started at third base and went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Impact
It's an encouraging start to the spring for Donovan, who's expected to open the year as Seattle's primary third baseman and leadoff hitter. Donovan, who was acquired from St. Louis earlier in February, slashed .287/.353/.422 with 10 homers across 118 games in 2025.

Cal Raleigh - Launches first spring homer
Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
Impact
Raleigh tied the game 3-3 in the third inning with a 427-foot blast off Wikelman Gonzalez, his first homer of the spring. Raleigh is looking to build on a historic 2025 campaign, when he posted a .948 OPS with 60 home runs across 705 plate appearances, ultimately finishing second to Aaron Judge in the MVP race. Raleigh should see regular at-bats with the Mariners early in the spring before reporting to Team USA for the World Baseball Classic.

Brendan White - Lands with M's
White signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Saturday.
Impact
White struggled to find his footing in the minors last year, posting a 7.24 ERA and 1.90 WHIP across 32.1 innings with Detroit's Triple-A affiliate before being released by the club in July. He'll get a chance to redeem himself with the Mariners, though he will most likely be used as bullpen depth at Triple-A Tacoma.

Jonny Farmelo - Seeing regular time in spring
Farmelo got the start in center field in Monday's Catctus League game against the Dodgers and went 1-for-2 with a stolen base.
Impact
The Mariners are taking an extended look at Farmelo early this spring, as the outfielder has appeared in three of their first four Cactus League contests. Farmelo has responded nicely, going 3-for-8 with a double and a pair of stolen bases. A first-round pick in the 2023 draft, Farmelo is one of the top prospects in a deep Seattle system, though he's been limited by numerous injuries early in his career. He appeared in just 30 games in 2025, where he posted a solid .819 OPS with seven home runs and two steals. Farmelo will likely return to High-A Everett to start the 2026 campaign.

Jose A. Ferrer - Stumbles to start spring
Ferrer was charged with the loss in Monday's Cactus League matchup with the Dodgers. He allowed two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one in one-third of an inning.
Impact
It certainly wasn't the ideal start to the spring for Ferrer. The lefty struck out Andy Pages to open the frame before surrendering three straight hits, including a pair of doubles, followed by a walk and a wild pitch. The Mariners are hoping that Ferrer can shake off the rust before Opening Day, as he's expected to play a key role in the back end of their bullpen. Ferrer was traded to Seattle in December after posting a 4.48 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 71:16 K:BB across 76.1 innings with the Nationals in 2025.
