MLB 2026 Buzz: MLB Reduces Nationals P Cade Cavalli’s Suspension To Five Games

Josh Fleming - Gets minor-league deal from Cubs The Cubs signed Fleming to a minor-league contract Monday, Lance Brozdowski of the Marquee Sports Network reports.

Impact Fleming made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays earlier this season and held a 3.08 ERA and 51:11 K:BB over 64.1 frames with Triple-A Buffalo. He was released Sunday after exercising an opt-out clause in his minor-league deal. The Cubs' pitching staff has been decimated by injuries, so Fleming could get an opportunity with the big club sooner rather than later.

Impact Cabrera is limited to playing catch, but after the Cubs came away encouraged by how his strained hamstring responded over the weekend, he could advance to throwing off a mound later this week before the team heads into the All-Star break. The right-hander probably won't be ready to return from the 15-day injured list immediately coming out of the break, but he'll have a shot at rejoining the Chicago rotation before the end of July if he steers clear of any setbacks with his hamstring while building back up.

Pete Crow-Armstrong - Scores, swipes base in win Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Cardinals.

Impact After a scorching hot June, Crow-Armstrong is keeping things rolling in July. The star outfielder has started the month with hits in four straight games, and he's 6-for-12 overall in July with a home run, two stolen bases, three runs scored and three RBI. In June, Crow-Armstrong batted .381 with a 1.249 OPS, eight steals, 11 long balls, 20 RBI and 21 runs scored across 26 contests. The 24-year-old is headed toward his second straight All-Star Game appearance with a ton of momentum.

Jacob Webb - Earns another save Sunday Webb allowed a hit and a walk across two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Cardinals. He struck out one.

Impact Webb worked the eighth and ninth innings on 27 pitches to record his third save of the season. The righty has earned two of those saves in the last seven games, which corresponds roughly with when Daniel Palencia (elbow) hit the injured list. Webb should continue to be Chicago's top option for saves at the moment, but his fantasy value will take a hit sometime after the All-Star break when Palencia is able to return and slide back into the closer role.

Javier Assad - Sidesteps danger in no-decision Assad took a no-decision Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks in 4.2 innings. He struck out two.

Impact Assad kept the St. Louis bats in check Sunday, scattering two singles over 4.2 shutout innings, and he notably escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second frame. The 28-year-old right-hander has been much more impactful as a starter versus a reliever, posting a 3.65 ERA and 1.05 WHIP across 37 innings from the rotation as opposed to a 5.12 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 19.1 frames out of the bullpen. It's unknown how Assad will next be deployed, as it's possible Jameson Taillon (hamstring) will be ready to take his next turn in the rotation.

Michael Conforto - Bigger role expected through break With Matt Shaw (hand) out at least through the All-Star break, per Patrick Mooney of The Athletic, Conforto should continue to see an expanded role in right field.

Impact Conforto has been the top option in right field with Shaw on the shelf, with Seiya Suzuki and Kevin Alcantara also mixing in. Suzuki also frequently serves as Chicago's DH, which was the alignment Saturday, when Conforto started in right and tallied two hits and and a walk from the seventh spot in the lineup.
