OU’s Sanchez earns top defensive honor for the second time this season

Saturday, Oklahoma defensive back Zack Sanchez had two interceptions.

Monday, the junior was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week. It was the second time Sanchez has earned the honor this season.

Sanchez and the Sooners shut out Kansas State Saturday, 55-0. He returned one interception 38 yards for a touchdown on K-State’s opening possession of the second half. Sanchez has three-career interception returns for touchdowns

K-State had just 110 yards of total offense and the Wildcats completed just 5-of-22 passes against OU. 

Oklahoma linebacker Travis Lewis was the last Sooner to be named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week twice in one season when he was honored in 2008.

OU is ranked ninth in the nation in passing defense and 23rd in the nation in total defense.
