ST. LOUIS — Don’t mess with Chris Long.

The St. Louis Rams’ rivalry with the San Francisco 49ers got a little more interesting Thursday afternoon when the veteran defensive end engaged in some colorful Twitter banter with 49ers offensive tackle Anthony Davis.

Here is the tweet from Davis that started it all …

First Long offered a warning …

Then he went into attack mode with two follow-up tweets, only one of which can be shown on a family website …

Two other NFL offensive linemen, Branden Albert of the Miami Dolphins and Jeff Allen of the Kansas City Chiefs, were among the folks who took notice of the Long-Davis social media scrum.

But Long wasn’t done poking fun at Davis.

Davis took his time, but responded to Long eventually.

Which Long then responded to with one parting message …

Well, that looks like that will be all for now. The 2014 season can’t get here soon enough.
