There are several sports stories and headlines for you to keep up with over the weekend. This Friday in the Bommarito Sports Update we help sift through it all to keep you updated. Some of the key story lines heading into this weekend are …
BASEBALL’S SECOND HALF KICKS INTO GEAR
Jaime Garcia starts the series opener for the Cardinals.
All things considered, the Cardinals are fortunate to be within shouting distance (seven games) of the NL Central-leading Cubs at the All-Star break. They open the season’s second half with a 10-game homestand, starting Friday night with the Miami Marlins. All three games this weekend are on FOX Sports Midwest.
Phil Mickelson was the leader Friday after two rounds of the British Open. The tournament continues through Sunday.
TOUR DE FRANCE
Tour de France overall leader Chris Froome (yellow jersey) and other riders lay flowers after observing a minute of silence to commemorate the victims of the Nice truck attack.
The Tour de France rides on despite the horrific truck attack in Nice that killed at least 84 people at a Bastille Day celebration Thursday.

The athletic director resigned Wednesday to take the AD job at Baylor, of all places.
