George Karl tweets interest in coaching Magic

George Karl, one of several former NBA coaches rumored to be a candidate to fill the Orlando Magic’s head coaching vacency, took to Twitter on Friday to express his interest in the job.

Karl, who turns 64 in May, has been out of coaching since leaving the Denver Nuggets following the 2012-13 season. That team went 57-25 and included Evan Fournier, who has started in 30 games for the Magic this season. He was named the NBA Coach of the Year in 2013.

The Magic fired Jacque Vaughn on Thursday and promoted James Borrego from an assistant to interim head coach. Borrego, 37, has no previous head coaching experience. Karl has 1,131 victories in a career which began in 1984 in Cleveland and has also included stops in Golden State, Seattle and Milwaukee.
