Steubenville HS involved in brawl at end of Ohio playoff game

The tribulations of Steubenville High School continued with another disturbing event Friday night.

The school was at the center of controversy for a rape case that led to the conviction of Ma’Lik Richmond and teammate Trent Mays in 2013. That ignited again when Richmond was welcomed back to the team this season.

This brings us to Friday night.

Steubenville defeated top-seeded Beechcroft, 29-21, in an Ohio Division IV final. The handshake line turned into a battle royale with fists being exchanged throughout the field at John D. Sulsberger Memorial Stadium in Zanesville.

Police were called to the field as parents and coaches became involved in the brawl, reported Dispatch.com.

The catalyst for melee was reportedly when a Beechcroft player, Takeyvion Simmons, made contact with Steubenville’s Dmitri Collaros as he took a knee in the waning seconds.

"Did you see what happened?" Steubenville coach Reno Saccoccia said when asked what he saw. He then declined to comment further.
