Escobedo pitches third career no-hitter in ASU’s 1-0 victory

Senior Dallas Escobedo struck out 13 batters and registered the third complete-game no-hitter of her Arizona State career in Tuesday night’s 1-0 walk-off victory over Longwood.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh, when Nikki Girard’s fielder’s choice with no outs brought home a sliding Bethany Kemp for only run for the Sun Devils (21-3).

Escobedo (9-2) walked three and hit one batter but retired 13 consecutive hitters after a shaky first inning. Her performance kept ASU in the game despite the offensive struggles against Longwood freshman pitcher Elizabeth McCarthy, who walked one and gave up five hits.

Kemp started the winning rally with a single to left field, then advanced to third on a single to right by Elizabeth Caporuscio. Girard came to the plate and sent the 0-1 pitch to the Longwood second baseman, whose throw home was unable to retire Kemp.
