Michigan point guard Trey Burke has been suspended for the Wolverines’ Nov. 1 exhibition opener against Northern Michigan, the team announced Wednesday.
In a news release, the team said that the sophomore point guard is being punished for an undisclosed violation of team rules.
“We have high standards and values for our student-athletes and we expect everyone to meet those expectations,” coach John Beilein said. “Trey will sit out the first game as a result of some ‘out of character’ decisions he now regrets. We believe he has learned a valuable lesson and we are confident he will grow from this experience.”
The suspension comes two days after Burke was one of six players named to the Associated Press All-America team. Last season, he led Michigan to the NCAA tournament, averaging 14.8 points and 4.6 assists as a true freshman.
