76ers CEO: Joel Embiid's recovery is ahead of schedule

There's been little good news where Joel Embiid is concerned if you're a fan of the Philadelphia 76ers. In fact, it was a gut punch of sorts once it was learned that he'd miss a second consecutive season after undergoing another foot surgery over the summer.Â
But a small piece of positive information has been made available, courtesy of Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil (via CSN Philly):
This doesn't change anything in terms of Embiid sitting out the season, because there's no way that the franchise would risk his long-term health just to get him back on the floor this year for a few meaningless games. But if he is in fact ahead of schedule in his recovery, then being cleared for Summer League is a real possibility.
Our doctors are saying it’s going ahead of schedule. At the end of the day, we know we have to show you and not just tell you. I will tell you that he is an elite talent, and I think he’ll be an elite player in this league.
