There are several sports stories and headlines for you to keep up with over the weekend. This Friday in the Bommarito Sports Update we help sift through it all to keep you updated. Some of the key story lines heading into this weekend are …
DAVID FREESE COMES HOME
2011 World Series hero David Freese makes his first trip back home to St. Louis since being traded to the Angels after the 2013 season. He’s now with a new team, the Pirates, who play three games (all on FOX Sports Midwest) at Busch Stadium this weekend. Last time these teams played each other — in the season-opening series in Pittsburgh — the Pirates swept the Cardinals and Freese, a native St. Louisan, was amused by all the fuss about facing his old team.
BLUES FACE A KEY GAME IN DALLAS
David Backes scored the game-winner in overtime in Game 2 when the Blues were last in Dallas.
This time a week ago, the Blues were starting a best-of-seven, second-round playoff series against the Dallas Stars. They’ve treaded water for a week, winning two and losing two, so now it’s basically a best-of-three series. Game 5 is in Dallas at noon Saturday. Game 6 will be Monday night in St. Louis.
THE RUN FOR THE ROSES
Nyquist enters the Kentucky Derby undefeated.
The 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby is on Saturday afternoon. Nyquist is the favorite at 3-to-1.
San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard and Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook.
It’s early in the second round of the playoffs. The weekend opens with Cleveland holding a 2-0 lead over Atlanta and Golden State up 2-0 on Portland, while the Miami-Toronto and San Antonio-Oklahoma City series are tied at a game apiece.
