Titans CB McCourty returns to practice

Published Sep. 24, 2015 1:08 p.m. ET

Tennessee Titans starting cornerback Jason McCourty returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing groin surgery in August.

“It was good to get back out there with the guys,’’ McCourty said, per the team's official website. “It felt good. It has been since the beginning of August since I put my helmet on. It definitely hasn’t been fun. Not being able to play is tough; that is what you get paid to do.”

The seven-year veteran was a limited participant in practice. His status for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts is uncertain.

“We’re just taking it day by day right now,’’ McCourty said. “We’ll see how I feel (Thursday) morning and take it from there...In this profession you don’t want to come back too soon, and you don’t want to hold yourself either if you are able to go. So we’ll see how it goes.”

The 28-year-old had 85 tackles with three interceptions and two forced fumbles last season. He underwent surgery Aug. 24 after being hampered by a groin injury throughout training camp.

Prior to this season, McCourty hadn't missed a start since 2011.
