Tony Romo on Dez Bryant's contract: 'I think it will work out'
By Rachel Wold
Not many people believe that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant will hold true to his threat to skip the season-opener because he does not have a contract in place. Quarterback Tony Romo falls into that category.
When asked about Bryant during his football camp in Wisconsin, Romo didn’t appear to be concerned.
“The NFL is a business, it really is,” he said, per Mike Ramczyk of MyRacineCounty.com. “You’ll see that side sometimes, with DeMarco (Murray) leaving and Dez not being part of the offseason. I think it will work out with Dez.”
Romo takes the same stance as owner Jerry Jones, vice president Stephen Jones and head coach Jason Garrett. The fact that Bryant showed up to the last part of the team’s mandatory minicamp - even though he was not contractually obligated to - must have given the team that glimmer of hope. Bryant and the Cowboys have until July 15 to iron out a long-term contract extension. If they can’t agree on a deal by then, Bryant either plays under the franchise tag or he sits out.
Contract talks between the two parties have recently reignited and there appears to be some sort of progress. Though, the clock is surely ticking on that front.
