Peyton Manning is unlikely to play in Broncos' preseason opener

Gary Kubiak has a cut-off for his Broncos players when it comes to their preseason opener.

If you've had a "lot of birthdays" -- like Peyton Manning has -- you probably won't see action against Seattle.

Kubiak told the Denver Post he'll strongly consider sitting Manning on Friday night. That must kill "The Sheriff" -- he's a legendary preparation freak who would've loved to get some snaps in against the Seahawks.

More likely than not, Denver will get a good long look at Brock Osweiler. It's a crucial offseason for the longtime Broncos backup, too.

Manning will object. But it's a wise move to evaluate Osweiler, and perhaps a wiser move to get the team's offensive line some reps before No. 18 steps in.
