Martellus Bennett pokes fun at Russell Wilson over religion
By Rachel Wold
It is no secret that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is a man of strong faith. He recently discussed in an interview that he and girlfriend Ciara are practicing abstinence until they are married.
Furthermore, Wilson claimed that God spoke to him after he threw the devastating interception that ultimately led to the Seahawks' Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots in February.
Due to all of Wilson’s recent public remarks, Chicago Bears tight end Martellus Bennett posted on Twitter regarding the quarterback’s connection with God.
Bennett has never been shy about ruffling feathers via social media. However, jabbing Wilson might be taking things a bit too far.
Because of Wilson’s faith, he obviously attracts a certain following similar to that of fellow quarterback Tim Tebow. With it comes negativity from some naysayers around the football world. Bennett obviously falls into the latter category.
It will be interesting to see if Wilson responds to Bennett’s chatter. It will also be interesting to see if Bennett’s brother, a defensive end for Seattle, sticks up for his quarterback.
