Koa Misi getting comfortable in the middle of the defense

Last season Koa Misi took the reins at middle linebacker of the Miami Dolphins defense for the first time and it didn't go as expected. Due to a combination of injuries Misi was in and out of the lineup throughout the season and had trouble adjusting to the new position.

After a full offseason to recover from his injuries, Misi enters his second season as the middle linebacker on the Dolphins defense and he seems to be feeling very comfortable at manning the middle of the defense.

“Just being out here, playing the same position I did last year is that much of a difference,” Misi said. “I’m able to learn from things I did last year. I know the defense now so I don’t have to really study anymore. I know all the plays, all the calls. I don’t have to second guess myself during practice.”

Head coach Joe Philbin has noticed the change in Misi's play as well during minicamp.

“He’s been able to be on the practice field every day and make strides and develop,” Philbin said. “I think he is understanding of adjustments and checks based on formation, coverage and the safety alignments and those types of things.”

If Misi can continue to improve during training camp, the Dolphins will have solved one of their more pressing roster needs without having to go outside the organization to do so.
