Broncos' Thomas has surgery on Achilles

Published Feb. 14, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is undergoing surgery on his torn Achilles' tendon, an injury he sustained during offseason workouts in Atlanta last week.

Thomas' recovery will take at least six weeks and, depending on the severity of the injury, he could miss all of next season.

Before tweeting Monday morning that he was heading in for surgery and asking for prayers, Thomas tweeted about his mother and grandmother, who have been incarcerated on drug charges since he was 12: ''Only if i had my mother and granny here with me, stuff would be so different.''

Thomas had a tough year after leaving Georgia Tech following his junior season.
