Report: Kentucky coach John Calipari plans campus scouting combine

Kentucky coach John Calipari is finalizing plans for a two-day campus scouting combine that will put his players in front of NBA executives, Yahoo Sports!/FOX Sports 1 Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday.

Citing league sources, Wojnarowski said Calipari has invited officials of the 30 teams to send personnel to Lexington, Ky., from Oct. 11-12 to watch his players in a variety of exercises, including full-court five-on-five and NBA style pick-and-roll sets to individual skill work.

With his team expected to be a consensus preseason No. 1 in the polls, Calipari is adding another asset to his program for top high school recruits.

According to the story, Calipari then plans to shut out NBA executives and scouts from his practices for several weeks, or months, into the season. That will help him avoid the distraction of scouts appearing throughout the practice sessions.

NBA personnel aren't allowed to interact with college undergraduates, Wojnarowski reported, but this could be cast as something helping serve the NBA's needs.

Kentucky's roster of top prospects includes freshman center Karl Towns, junior center Willie Cauley-Stein, sophomore center Dakari Johnson, sophomore guard Andrew Harrison, sophomore forward Marcus Lee, sophomore guard Aaron Harrison, freshman guard Devin Booker and freshman forward Trey Lyles.
