AKRON — The LeBron James Family Foundation will stage a ‘Welcome Home LeBron Community Rally" on Aug. 8 at InfoCision Stadium on the University of Akron campus, foundation officials announced Friday.
The rally is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. and is open to the public. It is part of the foundation’s annual PROMISE Project Week. The LJFF will also be staging renovations to various properties in Akron on Aug. 2 and Aug. 10.
Fans and community members at the rally will get to hear James speak, as they celebrate his return, City of Akron Communications Director Stephanie York said.
James, a four-time NBA MVP and Akron native, announced his decision to come back to the Cleveland Cavaliers and his Northeast Ohio roots following four years with the Miami Heat. James was drafted No. 1 overall by the Cavs in 2003 and played with the franchise until 2010.
James, 29, is a 10-time All-Star and has remained active in charity events in Akron and the surrounding areas his entire pro career.
