Details of WR Coxson's release from Packers still a mystery

Published Aug. 20, 2015 1:35 p.m. ET

The Green Bay Packers cut ties with wide receiver Adrian Coxson this week. Normally, it's not big news for an undrafted rookie to be cut in August. However, this particular situation is shrouded in secrecy.

On Monday, the Packers released Coxson. A day later, Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel reported that the team used a "failure to disclose physical condition" designation, which is rare and has only been in existence since 2011.

Both sides have refused to comment on the situation, according to the Michael Cohen of the Journal Sentinel. The silence may be a sign that Coxson is planning on filing a grievance, which he has the option to do if he believes the Packers unjustly released him.

"I’m not really allowed to speak on it yet," Coxson said in a phone interview with the Journal Sentinel.

During the Packers' third training camp practice, Coxson was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and was later diagnosed with a concussion, per Weston Hodkiewicz of Press-Gazette Media. He did not return to the practice field in between the incident and his release.
