Giants' Snee, Weatherford restructure contracts

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) A person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press on Monday night that New York Giants center Chris Snee and punter Steve Weatherford restructured their contracts.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not formally announced the moves, said that center David Baas also will be waived-injured on Tuesday, when teams can start signing free agents.

The person did not have details Monday night of the deals for Snee and Weatherford.

ESPN reported that Snee will cut his salary $7.2 million to $1.1 million. He also can earn $1 million in incentives. Snee missed most of last season after undergoing hip surgery. He will be entering his 11th season.

Weatherford was to earn almost $2.2 million next season.

Baas was signed as a free agent in 2011 and centered the line that helped Eli Manning and the Giants win their second Super Bowl in five seasons in 2012. The 32-year-old played three games last season because of knee and neck injuries. The Giants will save more than $1.75 million in salary cap space by cutting him.

The move leaves the Giants without a center since Kevin Boothe is a free agent and Jim Cordle is a restricted free agent who probably will not be tendered because of a knee injury.

New York reportedly has interest in Saints center Brian de la Puente and Packers center Evan Dietrich-Smith.

The moves leave the Giants roughly $24 million under the salary cap.
