Chiefs injuries: Jeremy Maclin, Jaye Howard active

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Kansas City Chiefs got some good news on Sunday, with both wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and defensive end Jaye Howard being active.

The Chiefs have released their inactives for the day, and it might be better than some were imagining. After seeing Jaye Howard sit out Wednesday and Thursday from practice, and then having David King called up from the practice squad, things didn’t look good for his availability.

However, Howard will be active along with King, giving Kansas City some depth and a bit of protection should Howard’s hip flare up. In addition, Jeremy Maclin will be playing through a sore groin that kept him out of Thursday’s practice. He came back on Friday, albeit limited.

Kansas City will be missing Spencer Ware and Alex Smith, which we already knew. Smith has been cleared of having a concussion but with some bumps on his head and a gashed ear, he will sit out Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Ware is still out dealing with a concussion. The only mild surprise here is that bishop Sankey is on the inactives list after being signed earlier in the week. This means that Knile Davis is both on the roster and playing as the secondary back behind Charcandrick West.
