NAU soccer returns to FOX Sports Arizona for 2 games

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Northern Arizona soccer returns to FOX Sports Arizona this week for a pair of Big Sky Conference home games.

The Lumberjacks (7-4-2, 3-1-1 Big Sky) host the conference-leading Montana Grizzlies (9-5, 5-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Eastern Washington Eagles (5-6, 2-3) on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both games will be televised live.

NAU, in thid place in the big Sky, is coming off a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Northern Colorado, winning the game on junior Haley Wingender’s goal with 30 seconds to play.

The Lumberjacks defeated Montana on the road last season, 2-1, and have not lost to Eastern Washington since 2004. NAU is 4-0-2 when playing at home.

"I think when you get to the midway point of the season, every game becomes critical and the margin for error is smaller for both teams," NAU coach Andre Luciano said. "Montana is on a very good roll right now after a tough non-conference schedule that prepared them for conference. They are a good attacking team that is very well organized in their backline. They make it difficult to play against them but on the other hand, I know our team can rise to these types of games."

Wingender leads NAU with eight goals and three assists, and freshman Adrian Nixt has four goals and three assists. Sophomore goaltender Natalie Gilbertson has seven shutouts to her credit and a goals-against-average of 0.50 that is threatening to better the existing school record of 0.60.

Hallie Widner has five goals and two assists for Monana, and goalkeeper Kailey Norman has an 0.98 goals-against-average and has not been scored upon in her past two games.
