Rodgers taking shot at Cutler?

Published Feb. 2, 2011 12:00 a.m. ET

Did Aaron Rodgers take a veiled shot at Bears quarterback Jay Cutler?

It certainly appeared that way Wednesday during a media session at the Green Bay Packers' hotel. Rodgers was asked about his fundamentals, specifically about a hop when he throws off his front foot.

"Everybody throws off their front foot, except for my buddy in Chicago," the Packers quarterback said.

Cutler is the starting quarterback in Chicago, and his penchant for throwing off balance and from awkward positions has contributed to his problems with interceptions.

Cutler also has been the subject of criticism for leaving the NFC Championship Game early in the third quarter with a left knee injury that later was diagnosed as a Grade 2 tear of the medial collateral liagment. The Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday that Cutler received an injection of painkiller at halftime of the game in an attempt to play through the injury.

Rodgers is a good friend of Cutler, so who knows if Rodgers let the media in on an inside joke or if he made a public critique of a peer.

Rodgers' fundamentals had better be sharp Sunday if the Packers are to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV (FOX pregame 2 p.m. ET, kickoff at 6:29).
