Giants' Beason to have surgery on foot, could miss 12 weeks
New York Giants linebacker Jon Beason didn't receive the news he was hoping for Friday.
One day after being carted off the field during an organized team activity, Beason was diagnosed with a fracture in his right foot that will require surgery and likely will miss 12 weeks.
If he needs the full 12 weeks, it will force Beason to miss the start of the regular season.
"The prognosis is X amount of time and it (the Sept. 8 opener) is within that timeframe," Beason said today. "I expect to be back (for that game). If not, I'll be back as soon as I can. That's really how you have to look at it. If it's not 16 (games played), maybe it's 15 or 14. Whatever it is, you want it to be that number as opposed to one."
Beason was acquired from the Carolina Panthers during a midseason trade. Beason played in the final 12 games of the season with the Giants, finishing with 65 tackles and one interception.
