Shaka Smart was quite popular at the Texas spring game
By Matt Hladik
Football is king at the University of Texas, and the Longhorns held their annual spring game on Saturday. But the fans in Austin definitely seem excited about the direction of the basketball program under newly hired Shaka Smart.
Smart was in attendance at Saturday's intersquad scrimmage, and he was quite the popular figure. Before the action started, he was on the sideline with head football coach Charlie Strong.
Smart also stopped by the set of the Longhorn Network’s broadcast, took a selfie with a fan and received a warm ovation when he was shown on the Jumbotron. You can see more photos here.
It sure seems like Smart is winning the crowd over early at his new home. That goodwill will only get him so far once the games start, however.
