49ers' Brooks on late sister: 'She would've wanted me to play'

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Ahmad Brooks was back in the starting lineup Sunday after missing one game following the death of his sister.

“I wanted to play,” Brooks said after the 49ers dispatched the Baltimore Ravens 25-20 to halt a four-game losing streak. “The passing of my sister, she was one of my biggest supporters from the time I was a little boy, so she would’ve wanted me to play this game. I wanted to play."

Brooks, who returned to practice Thursday after being away from the team for more than a week, recorded three tackles but admitted he struggled with his conditioning.

“I took a week off, and I felt the effect of it today,” Brooks said. “I started to cramp up in the second half, but I made it through.”

Tight end Vernon Davis also returned to the lineup after missing the previous two games due to a knee injury. He did not have a catch and was targeted only once.
