Panthers at Raiders: Game preview, odds, prediction
The 8-2 Oakland Raiders will welcome the 4-6 Carolina Panthers to the Oakland Coliseum on Sunday in a game featuring two stud quarterbacks.
The Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers both picked up victories in Week 11 and will be looking to continue their winning ways when they meet on Sunday afternoon. Carolina was able to squeak by the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football and will come into the game against the Raiders well rested. Oakland had to come back from a fourth quarter deficit to beat the Houston Texans on Monday night and come into the game as the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Oakland and the Texans traveled to Mexico City for their Monday night tilt last week and they certainly gave the fans a show. Down 20-13 in the fourth, Derek Carr threw two fourth quarter touchdown passes and the Raiders won the game, 27-20. Carolina dominated the Saints for three quarters in their Week 11 matchup and barely held on, as the Saints scored 17 in the fourth quarter to pull within three.
This one has the potential to be a great game, as the Panthers have been playing spirited football as of late. Cam Newton is going to be very hard for the Raiders to defend, as they are still trying to come together as a unit on the defensive side of the ball. Carr has shown the ability to move the ball against any team and the Panthers may not have an answer for him for four quarters.
Odds
Line: Raiders (-3)
Over/Under: 49
The Raiders are flying high after their victory against the Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, as they once again came back from a late deficit. Carr is starting to show the world that the Raiders are never out of a game, and he has the kind of never say die attitude that reminds people of his idol, Brett Favre. Oakland is going to be able to move the ball against the Panthers, but the question will be whether or not they have an answer for a rested Cam Newton.
Newton and the Panthers are playing better football as of late, but they have come down from the high of playing in the Super Bowl last year. Newton is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and Kelvin Benjamin appears fully healthy from his torn ACL a year ago. However, if Luke Kuechly cannot go, they are going to have a tough time stopping the Raiders.
Prediction: Raiders 27 Panthers 20
