Mayor announces 'framework deal' has been reached to keep Raiders in Oakland

There are a lot of people hoping to keep the Raiders in Oakland, including the city’s mayor.

Steps are being taken to make that happen, as the mayor’s office confirmed to NBC Bay Area on Tuesday that a framework deal has been reached to keep the Raiders where they currently are.

By no means does this guarantee the Raiders are staying in Oakland, however. The deal was agreed upon by mayor Libby Schaaf and a group led by former Raider Ronnie Lott.

“The mayor said this a.m. there is a framework that that has been agreed upon and now in closed session today (county) and closed session on Nov. 29 (city council). Both bodies will review so we know if we can move forward," the mayor's office said.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t an agreement between the city and the team. Instead, it’s one between the mayor and a group that’s hoping to keep the Raiders at home in Oakland.

Nonetheless, this is a good sign for those who don’t want the Raiders to move to Las Vegas.

Last month, the Nevada state legislature cleared the way for the possible construction of an NFL stadium in Las Vegas that could host the Raiders if they decide to relocate.
