Vikings still have a 'fluid' situation next to Smith at safety

The Minnesota Vikings have one incredible safety in Harrison Smith. His dominance is evident upon examination of opposing quarterbacks' passer rating when targeting him this season.

Next to Smith, however, the Vikings have a rotating door.

"It's fluid," Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said about the team's safety situation, per ESPN's Ben Goessling. "Keep working them."

The Vikings have relied upon a combination of Andrew Sendejo and Robert Blanton to man the job next to Smith. Neither safety has played with enough consistency to lock up the role in Minnesota's defensive backfield.

Second-year pro Antone Exum could be a candidate for the job, but he hasn't done enough to prove himself as starting caliber. The Vikings might be just as likely to take a chance on undrafted rookie Anthony Harris or Brock Vereen, a former Chicago Bears safety who was claimed off waivers earlier this month.
