Giants OC McAdoo: Vereen can be a QB's best friend

The hype surrounding New York Giants running back Shane Vereen continues to build. Vereen put together a strong set of OTA and mini-camp practices and he has developed a nice rapport with Eli Manning. You can add offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo to the list of those around the organization who are excited about what Vereen brings to the offense.

"You can see why Shane has had some of the success he has had," McAdoo said, per True Jersey. "He can be a quarterback's best friend in a way in the passing game."

McAdoo mentioned that, "this year, there are some more guys in the mix" when discussing if Odell Beckham Jr. would be featured in such a prominent role again. Looking at who the Giants brought in this offseason, it's easy to assume he was most likely referring to Vereen.

If Vereen can prove to be a better fit in McAdoo's zone-blocking based offense than he ever was in the Patriots' predominantly power-blocking scheme, he could earn significant playing time. He is already the team's most reliable running back in the passing game.
