Colin Kaepernick to Trump: America has never been great for people of color

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick responded to Donald Trump's comments that he should find another country due to his decision to protest during the national anthem.

Kaepernick first decided to sit during the national anthem in preseason before taking a knee as he attempts to raise awareness about racial injustice in America. On Aug. 29, Trump responded by saying, “I think it’s a terrible thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him, let him try, it’s not gonna happen.”

“He always says make America great again, ” Kaepernick said on Tuesday. “Well America has never been great for people of color. That's something that needs to be addressed. Let's make America great for the first time.”
