Lovie Smith believes Demar Dotson will be at mandatory minicamp

Demar Dotson skipped out on voluntary OTAs with the hopes of landing a new contract. Unfortunately for Doston, the team instead pulled the contract offer that was on the table, leading to a bit of a crazy week on the horizon. According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN though, Lovie Smith expects the lineman to be at mandatory minicamp, which begins next week.

"Smith said he expects to see right tackle Demar Dotson at mandatory minicamp next week. That might be wishful thinking because Dotson has stayed away from voluntary OTAs (organized team activities) the last two weeks, reportedly because he wants a new contract." Yasinskas explained.

As for Smith's thoughts on Dotson missing voluntary OTAs, he didn't seem too concerned.

“This is my approach to voluntary workouts,’’’ Smith told ESPN. “They’re voluntary. I’d like for everybody to be here every time we have an opportunity to but if a guy chooses not to for whatever reason, that’s them. Next week everything’s mandatory. I’m concerned if someone doesn’t show up for mandatory work.’’

Smith seems to be staying positive in the whole situation, but it may not be the best move, as it definitely seems likely that Dotson could remain as a holdout until the two sides get a contract worked out.
