Rays use longball to beat Phillies 6-1

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) Logan Forsythe, Steve Pearce, Richie Shaffer and Mikie Mahtook hit homers to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

Rays third baseman Evan Longoria left the game with a left shin contusion after hitting a foul ball off his foot in the first inning. His status wasn't immediately known.

Tampa's Matt Moore struck out eight in 4 2-3 innings. The lefty allowed one run and five hits.

Phillies righty Vince Velasquez fanned seven and allowed one run in five innings, increasing his chances of winning the fifth starter's job.

Ryan Howard hit a solo homer and had a double off Moore.
