Michigan Football: Cesar Ruiz Continues Impressive Recruiting Run
Michigan football’s strong recruiting stretch continued Monday with the commitment of four-star center Cesar Ruiz, and it might not be done.
Four-star center Cesar Ruiz chose Michigan football on Monday afternoon in what was considered to be far from a surprising announcement.
Ruiz (Bradenton, Florida) is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 center in the 2017 recruiting class and the No. 11 overall prospect in Florida. He was considered a very strong Michigan lean by recruiting experts.
As Steve Wiltfong points out, the Wolverines are getting a warrior with the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Ruiz. In his season finale at IMG Academy, Ruiz had a dislocated finger that a trainer popped back into place so he could go finish out a 16-6 win over Bishop Sullivan Catholic.
Ruiz, the 23rd commit to join Michigan’s 2017 class, is the third highest-ranked prospect to join the class. Above him are four-star quarterback Dylan McCaffrey (Littleton, Colorado) and five-star wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones (Detroit).

In choosing Michigan, Ruiz turned down offers from the likes of Auburn, Alabama and Florida, among others.
Ruiz became the third big-time prospect to pick the Wolverines in less than a week. Last Wednesday it was four-star receiver Tarik Black (Cheshire, Connecticut) who committed to Michigan, followed by Peoples-Jones on Thursday.
With Ruiz’s commitment, Michigan jumped up to No. 4 in the 247Sports Composite class rankings. Ahead of the Wolverines are Georgia (No. 3), Ohio State (No. 2) and Alabama (No. 1).
As well as the last six days have gone for Michigan—the Wolverines did miss out on four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson on Friday—there’s probably still more fun to be had.
Four-star defensive end Deron Irving-Bey (Flint, Michigan) is announcing Monday evening at 4 EST. Irving-Bey, who’s ranked as the No. 5 defensive end in the 2017 class, is considered a strong Michigan lean.
Then on Thursday, four-star outside linebacker/running back Jordan Anthony (Bradenton, Florida), also a Michigan lean, will be making his commitment decision.
