Vikings release WR Jarius Wright

Published Mar. 16, 2018 6:35 p.m. ET

After making a couple of big free-agent signings, the Minnesota Vikings cleared some cap space by releasing wide receiver Jarius Wright on Friday.

Wright, who had 18 catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns last season, had a cap number of $4,760,000 for 2018. By cutting him, the Vikings save $2,640,000 but will have $2,120,000 in dead money.

Ostensibly Minnesota's third wideout, Wright saw himself passed up on the depth chart by second-year receiver Laquon Treadwell, who had 20 receptions last season.

A fourth-round pick in 2012, Wright has spent all six of his seasons with the Vikings, compiling 153 catches for 2,039 yards and 10 TDs.
