Report: Redskins' Banks to exit hospital
Washington Redskins kick returner Brandon Banks is expected to be released from the hospital later Sunday after being stabbed while attempting to break up a fight at a nightclub in Washington, D.C., The Washington Post reported.
Banks has been recovering from knife wounds suffered during the early Saturday morning incident.
"He's recovering well, there's no damage and no residual effects, so it looks like he's going to make a full recovery and be just fine," Banks' agent, James Gould, said in a phone interview with The Post.
"Brandon's friend also is recovering. He was talking today, and also is expected to make a full recovery," Gould added.
Police reports said Banks' childhood friend Christopher Nixon, 24, got into an argument with Jason David Shorter of Lanham, Md., outside nightclub The Park about 3:00am local time.
The exchange turned physical and Banks, 23, and the club's security guard attempted to break it up, security camera footage showed.
According to Gould, Shorter began swinging a folding knife, causing multiple cuts to the face and body of Nixon and a "superficial wound" to Banks' upper left abdomen.
Nixon required surgery and was in intensive care, while Banks received stitches.
Washington police initially charged Shorter with assault with the intent to kill, but the US Attorney's office charged him with the lesser crime of assault with a dangerous weapon, according to The Post.
