A person familiar with the decision says the New York Jets have decided to not participate in HBO's ''Hard Knocks'' this summer after being approached by HBO about appearing in the hit show again.

Rex Ryan, Mark Sanchez and Co. were big TV hits two years ago — the last time the show aired — but opted to not star in a sequel, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Friday because neither the team nor the cable network had announced the decision.

The arrival of Tim Tebow would have made for intriguing television, but the person says the Jets' decision stems from wanting to minimize distractions during training camp. The person says the Jets would be open to appearing on a future season of ''Hard Knocks.''
