New Orleans Saints sign 14-year-old superfan battling rare disease

Published Nov. 15, 2016 1:54 p.m. ET

Back in 2015, the New Orleans Saints invited Jarrius Robertson to practice after a video of players visiting him in the hospital went viral, and he's since become an unofficial member of the team. On Tuesday, the Saints surprised Robertson with a contract to officially join the organization.

Jarrius is battling biliary atresia, a rare liver disease, and has already undergone 13 surgeries over the course of his life. He's currently on the waiting list for a liver transplant.

On Tuesday's episode of Good Morning America, Saints coach Sean Payton asked Jarrius to become a New Orleans Saint, and he happily responded "you don't have to tell me twice!"

Jarrius will travel with the team this weekend to serve as the Saints' hype man in Kansas City. Before that, he did a bit of reporting and interviewed Robin Roberts.
