Lions sign fullback Jed Collins to 1-year deal
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) The Detroit Lions have added a fullback to their offense.
Detroit signed Jed Collins to a one-year contract Wednesday. He started 26 of 47 games the previous three seasons for the New Orleans Saints.
Collins reunites with Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who was previously an assistant coach in New Orleans. Lombardi plans to use a fullback, a position Detroit had phased out under former coach Jim Schwartz.
Collins started eight games last season for the Saints and had 15 carries for 45 yards rushing and a touchdown along with 14 receptions for 54 yards. In Collins' career, he has 19 rushing attempts for 49 yards and three touchdowns and 39 receptions for 174 yards and four scores.
