Lions among teams approached by federal agents

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) Detroit coach Jim Caldwell says the Lions were one of the NFL teams questioned by federal drug enforcement agents as part of an investigation into potential violations regarding controlled substances.

A spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Administration said Sunday that agents were interviewing NFL team doctors in several locations. The DEA did not target specific teams, but investigators used the spot checks to try to measure whether visiting NFL clubs were generally in compliance with federal law.

When asked if the Lions were approached, a team spokesman referred to comments Caldwell made to a Detroit-area TV station. Caldwell told WXYZ: ''From what I understand, they did interview one of our doctors and I know we were in compliance.''
