Cowboys exec dispels rumors that Tony Romo is out of shape

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:30 p.m. ET

The Dallas Cowboys opened training camp with their first day of practice on Saturday in Oxnard, Calif. Tony Romo was among the players on the field as he made his triumphant return after missing most of the 2015 season due to a collarbone injury.

The only problem is that his return to the gridiron was marred by an unflattering picture unintentionally snapped by a beat writer.

The photo went viral and caused fans all over the place to wonder if Romo had spontaneously gained 45 pounds this offseason. To no one’s surprise, he didn’t.

Instead, he’s in some of the best shape he’s ever been in, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

“He’s in great shape,” Jones said via the Star-Telegram. “I think he’s in some of the best shape he’s been in. Everybody can always get a picture taken of you that makes it look different than it is. But Tony is in great shape.”

Jones continued to discuss the overplayed matter, which has absolutely no real significance. It didn’t even warrant a jab from Jones after the picture surfaced.

“I don’t joke with Tony,” Jones said. “Tony, actually, I go in there and work out and Tony is in great shape.”

Fear not, Cowboys fans. Romo isn’t 30 pounds overweight and he’s back playing football again. All is well in Dallas … well, Oxnard.
