Royals sign Cody Asche and RP Mike Broadway to minor league deals
The Kansas City Royals added some minor league depth with two signings on Thursday, inking utility man Cody Asche and reliever Mike Broadway to minor league deals.
Asche, 27, spent four seasons with the Phillies before joining the White Sox last season. He posted a .105 batting average with one homer and four RBIs in 19 games at the big-league level. He fared better in the minors, however. Asche posted a .292 average with 14 homers and 57 RBIs in 87 games.
Broadway will also look to prove himself with his deal with the Royals. Broadway, 30, posted an 11.81 ERA in four games — all in relief — with the Giants last season. He posted a slightly better 5.36 ERA between AA and AAA last season.
